Narrative of the Young Shepherd
Blog Article
At the center of the mesmerizing rolling hills, resided a young shepherd. His existence was mostly pure, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was mainly to look after his flock of sheep.
Their gentle baas and the whispering of the breezes across the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day after day, watching over his responsibilities imbued in him a sense of calm satisfaction.
However, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. During one such occasion out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome scheme.
Stories of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.
One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to help but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This trick persisted for a few days more. But, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it here was in the past.
